Glenburnie Market Report 17/4/24

18/04/2024

Please note due to Anzac Day there will be NO Market Wednesday 24/4/24

The market at Glenburnie, saw prices much softer as per other markets earlier in the week. The 948 cattle were very mixed with the smaller field of buyers being selective especially on off bred or secondary types. The top end quality of both the cows and the bullocks was very good.

BULLS:     Sold at 9am by Auctioneer Jordy Heinrich. A reduced yarding of bulls saw prices ease slightly this week with the best bulls making to 220c per kg with most sales ranging from 200-210c per kg. Bulls lacking cover sold from 150-180c per kg.

Quotations:  MW Jones Ang bull 210c 895kg $1879. Roxley Park Ang bull 170c 860kg $1462.

HEAVY STEERS & BULLOCKS:     Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Andrew Whan and Mitch Whan. Some very good quality bullocks did not help the bullock prices hold, as the best beef steers were 10-15c per kg cheaper at 275-320c per kg while the manufacturing types had much bigger price falls selling from 145-224c per kg.

Quotations: MR Jennings Frs Strs 170c and 180c 606kg $1092 and $923.

YOUNG CATTLE:  Drafted and presented by Auctioneer Peter Creek and Scott Miller. The yarding consisted of mainly grass heifers both heavy and trade weights, with a few feeder steers. Again, there were some dramatic price falls. Trade and feeder orders operated on heavy heifers over 500kg 235-270c per kg and trade heifers 260-310c per kg.

APRIL STORE CATTLE SALE REPORT – 12/4/24 It was as sale of two halves for the good quality yarding of over 2800 cattle last Friday.  Feedlot demand was very strong for any cattle over 380kg to be $60 to $100 dearer than last month, while lighter cattle 320kgs and under lacked the competition (due to the long-term nature of the cattle and the continuing dry start to the season). Feeder weight steers made 300-372c per kg or $1200 to $1550 with heavy steers over 500kg $1500 to $1950. 320-380kg steers $980 to $1370. Light weight weaner steers $720 to $1000. The few pens of heavy heifers made $1050 to $1320. 300-360kg heifers made $680 to $1040 while light heifers looked good buying at $400 to $650.

Glenburnie Market Report 13/3/24

14/03/2024

PHOTO: KJ & MJ Mountford prime Angus ox off irrigation 288-290c per kg returning $2004

After a long weekend of extreme heat and the news of cheaper prices earlier in the week at other selling centres saw a much smaller yarding of only 753 cattle. The top end quality was very good with some bullocks and heavy heifers that had been finished on irrigation, receiving strong buyer demand. Cattle that were off type of showing the signs of the dry conditions were heavily discounted. A reminder there will be no market Wednesday 27th March due to the Easter long weekend.

BULLS:     Sold at 9am by Auctioneer Jordy Heinrich. A cheaper yarding of bulls this week with the best bulls making 180c per kg. Bulls lacking weight and conditions made 160c per kg.

HEAVY STEERS & BULLOCKS:     Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Andrew Whan and Liam Durcan. A very mixed run of steers and bullocks with processors and heavy feeder orders operating on suitable cattle. The best quality bullocks sold 5-10c per kg back on last week but plainer types were 20-30c per kg lower. Best heavy steers and bullocks 255-290c per kg, cross breds 170-258c per kg while manufacturing types 70-168c per kg.

Quotations: KJ & MJ Mountford Ang ox 288-290c per kg or $2004, Her ox 275c 648kg $1782. “The Dale” Her strs 276c 577kg $1592 and Ang Frs x strs 264c 673kg $1778.

YOUNG CATTLE:  Drafted and presented by Auctioneer Peter Creek and Mitch Whan. The top end quality was very good but then dropped away quickly to see many plainer, secondary types that at times lacked competition. The better-quality heifers were firm on last week, making 220-280c per kg with heavy heifers over 500kg 210-260c per kg. A few yearling steers were brought by feedlots making up to 290c per kg. There are some very plain cattle that are not coming back at a lot of money, if restockers had feed they look good buying.

Quotations: BJ & DT Bouchier Ang Frs x heifers 230c 515kg $1186

COWS:     Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Liam Durcan and Peter Creek. A small run of beef cows sold to the usual field of buyers but at rates 10-15c per kg back on last week. The best beef cows made 210-230c per kg while the lighter types made 140-182c per kg.

Quotations: KP Bouchier Ang Frs x cows 205c 544kg $1115 and Char x cows 212c 592kg $1256. BJ & DT Bouchier Ang cows 220c 595kg $1309.

SHEEP & LAMBS:     Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Liam Durcan & Jordy Heinrich. A small mixed quality yarding of a 132 sheep and lambs sold to cheaper trends this week. The better killable lambs made from $90 to $130 while secondary types made $25 to $78. Sheep made $20 to $60.

MARCH STORE CATTLE SALE REPORT 8/3/24 A very large yarding of approx. 4200 came forward. Quality was very good with some large drafts penned. Generally, the sale was above expectations with good feedlot and restocker competition. Some lighter weaners were cheaper than last month and looked buying. The heave stees over 500kg made 255-309c per kg or $1500-$1620. Feeder steers 400-500kg made 285-340c per kg while the very good quality run of 320-380kg weaners made 320-380c per kg or up to $1350. Light weaner steers made $600-$750. An outstanding run of predominantly Ang heifers came forward and sold at rates dearer than last month for the heifers over 300kg. Glenburnie Livestock Report 6/3/2024

7/03/2024

A very positive cattle market this week that saw the good quality cattle selling firm to dearer, and more plainer cattle and inferior types selling up to 20 cents cheaper in the very mixed yarding.  The yarding of yearlings suited feedlot orders and backgrounders.  The cow market remained solid with a good run of heavy weight cows.

BULLS:     Sold at 9am by Auctioneer Jordy Heinrich

Quality was mixed in this weeks bull market.  The better quality bulls made to 220c while most sales ranged from 170-200c per kg with light bulls making 150c.

BULLOCKS:     Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Andrew Whan and Liam Durcan

YOUNG CATTLE:  Drafted and presented by Auctioneer Peter Creek and Jordy Heinrich

444 yearlings and vealers yarded, all sold to cheaper rates mainly due to breed and lack of condition.  The yarding was very mixed and poor for quality.  Grass fed yearlings sold from 240-308c per kg with prices easing up to 50c per kg on inferior bred young cattle.

Quotations: T & K Paynter Poll Hereford heifers 238c $1314.95.  E & SB Douglas Angus heifers 241c $1285.33.  CT Roberts, Angus x steers 234c $1173.90.
