Rain over the Easter weekend was welcomed for one of the early starts to the season.  A strong sale on manufacturing steers and cows continued with prices dearer.  Improved quality on grassfed yearlings selling to 480c.  Bullocks sold to 405c.  The cow market continues to sell very strongly with best beef cows to 315c with all classes of cows selling to dearer trends.

A small run of beef bulls sold to firm rates of 240-270c per kg. 

HEAVY STEERS & BULLOCKS:   Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Andrew Whan and Jordy Heinrich
129 bullocks yarded.  Although numbers were small, quality improved on manufacturing dairy steers.  Excellent young Angus bullocks topped at 405c per kg, mainly 365-390c per kg.  Friesian steers made 270-290c per kg.

YEARLING & VEALERS:   Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Peter Creek and Scott Miller
139 yearlings and vealers yarded in a mixed run of young cattle for both breed and type.  The best quality sold to the trade topping the market at 480c per kg for grass fed yearling heifers A/c KJ & MJ Mountford, Penola.  Grown heifers sold to 355c.  Yearling steers also attracted trade competition from 350c to 385c per kg with feedlot support 330-400c per kg.

153 cows yarded.  Price trends were 10c per kg dearer with beef cows selling to 315c, mainly 265-295c per kg.

The first market back after Easter saw a larger yarding of lambs and sheep.  Not all processors were active in a market that was firm in price.  Heavy export lambs 26kg+ made from $175-$196.  Trade lambs 20-25kg made $140-$180.  Light lambs under 20kg made $70-$130 with very little restocker competition.  Sheep sold from $40-$80.
