The largest field of buyers seen for some time competed for the increased yarding of 570. Quality was mixed with some better quality yearlings and cows offered. There were some mixed price trends, with the export classes at least fully firm to dearer while the young cattle did not reach the highs of last week.

A smaller run of bulls with the better beef bulls 245-260c per kg.
 
HEAVY STEERS & BULLOCKS:   Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Andrew Whan and Liam Durcan
A better run of bullocks and steers this week with more straight beef bred types and less dairy steers. Prices were firm to dearer with processors paying 345-395c per kg, dairy bred steers 260-288c per kg.

YOUNG CATTLE:   Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Peter Creek and Scott Miller
A very good quality yarding of young cattle that consisted of mainly grass heifers. Prices were back on last weeks high rates to be 10-15c per kg cheaper. Heavy heifers 288-360c per kg, yearling steers 360-390c per kg, trade heifers 360-395c per kg. The few vealer types made 380-440c per kg.

194 cows yarded, being better quality than last week, with more heavy beef cows presented. It was a very strong cow sale with the best heavy beef cows 280-315c per kg. Light beef cows to processors and restocker competition 238-258c per kg and Friesian cows to a top of 289c per kg.

A larger yarding of 1025 lambs and sheep sold to a bigger buying gallery with prices firm on lambs and dearer on sheep. Heavy export lambs 26-32kg made from $180 to $210. Trade lambs 20-25kg made from $130 to $178 and light lambs under 20kg made from $50 to $125. A small yarding of sheep sold to dearer rates with heavy sheep selling from $90 to $113, with light sheep selling from $30 to $80.

STORE SALE REPORT
Mt Gambier Combined Agents Store Cattle Sale 14/04/2023
 
A small, very good quality yarding of approximately 1200 cattle came forward. Steers were in demand from feedlots, south eastern and local restockers to see prices $100 to $150 dearer than the March sale. A few pens of Angus steers over 500kg were offered and made $2000 to $2300. Feeder steers 400-500kg made $1600 to $1870, weaner steers 300kg + made $1250 to $1750 and light spring drop steers $800 to $1250. The heifers did not see the lift of the steers and were firm to $50 dearer. The heifers were mainly 280-360kgs and made $900 to $1310 and light heifers $650 to $890.
