This week price trends for slaughter cattle were dearer. Young cattle prices lifted15-20c per kg for well finished trade cattle, topping at 400c per kg for milk vealers. As numbers tighten good beef cows sold over 300c per kg with spirited bidding throughout the sale bullocks topped at 346c per kg.

 

BULLS:  Sold at 9am Auctioneer Liam Durcan

A small yarding of bull sold selling from 220-270c per kg.

 

BULLOCKS:  Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Andrew Whan & Liam Durcan.

126 Bullocks yarded. All heavy weight bullocks sold to dearer rates with some better finished bullocks up to 20c per kg dearer. Manufacturing steers equal to 10c per kg dearer. Best heavy bullocks 346c per kg. Friesian steers 255-280c per kg.

Quotations: A/c Caldow Holdings Moorak, X-bred steers 338c $1749. A/c J Meade Heywood, Friesian steers 280c $1430. A/c Jakero Glenburnie, Ang x steers 300c $1569.

 

YEARLING & VEALERS:    Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Peter Creek & Scott Miller

321 yearling and vealers yarded, Most young cattle were lacking general condition with trade only buying well finished yearlings. All prices 10-15c per kg dearer. Best grassfed yearling heifers sold to 360c per kg.  The better quality grassfed yearling steers 340-370c per kg. Milk vealers to a top of 400c per kg.

Quotations:  A/c PC & SL Woolston Beachport, grassfed yearling heifers 351c $1509. A/c HP & SS Goodman Lake Mundi, Hereford heifers to a market top 360c $1422 and steer vealers 385c $1578. A/c Hillside Mingbool, 19 Hereford heifers 326c $1561.

COWS:     Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Liam Durcan & Andrew Whan.

210 cows yarded, mainly empty beef cows selling to a strong buying group with best beef cows selling over 300c per kg.

Quotations:  A/c KJ & MJ Mountford Penola, Angus x cows 298c $2107. A/c Hillside Poll Hereford cows 294c $1707.  

 

SHEEP AND LAMBS:   Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Scott Miller and Liam Durcan.

1,076 sheep and lambs sold, 719 less than last week.  A much smaller run of shorn lambs with only one pen making over $200. Trade lambs sold consistently well with most of the 20-22kg trades from $165 to $185. There were no heavy trades at 22-24kg, but a small number of export lambs from 24-26kg sold firm $190 to $230. Wholesalers and trade purchasers sourced lambs in the 18-20kg bracket at $142 to $165, underpinned by restockers from $135 to $170. Lighter lambs 16-18kg were numerous and showed signs of the season at $102 to $130.

Quotations:  A/c Welsh Pastoral Co 29 lambs $183. A/c ML & CE Clarke 97 lambs $166 to $175.
