The second market of the new year saw a decrease in numbers (1336) but an increase in prices. Rainfall throughout Victoria and parts of NSW has caused supply issues for processors and therefor prices have increased 20-40c per kg depending on quality. A full field of buyers competed on the mixed quality yarding.

BULLS:     Sold at 9am by Auctioneer Jordy Heinrich. A very small run of beef bulls sold from 200-230c per kg.

HEAVY STEES & BULLOCKS:     Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Peter Creek and Liam Durcan. A much stronger sale with all weights and grades well represented, with a price increase of 15-30c per kg on last weeks better rates. Heavy feeders and processors operated at rates of 260-310c per kg while a very good quality run of dairy cross and Friesian steers sold at dearer rates to see cross bred 235-268c per kg.

 YOUNG CATTLE:     Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Peter Creek and Scott Miller. A very mixed quality run of young cattle that saw a big increase in competition for vealers of 25-40c per kg to see the best vealer strs 260-325c per kg and vealer heifers 248-312c per kg. Heavy grass heifers 228-275c per kg, trade heifers 242-270c per kg whilst trade steers met domestic and feeder competition to make 244-292c per kg.

COWS:     Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Liam Durcan and Mitch Whan. Cows followed the dearer trends to be 30-40c per kg better than last week. The best medium to heavy cows made 234-260c per kg.

SHEEP & LAMBS:     Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Liam Durcan & Jordy Heinrich. The second market of the new year saw and increase numbers to 6328 lambs and 37 sheep with all the regular buyers competing keen to secure their share. Heavy lambs 26kg + sold from $195 to $250. Trade lambs 20-26kg sold from $150 to $195. Light lambs under 20kg sold from $49 to $150 with restockers purchasing lambs from $49 to $135.

JANUARY STORE SALE REPORT 5/1/24 A smaller than anticipated yarding of 2800 cattle came forward. Two major feedlots operated as well as back grounders and restockers. Prices were similar to the December sale, but with buyers being selective on the coloured cattle. A few pens of heavy steers over 550kg started the market but the bulk of the yarding were Autumn drop weaners of very good quality. The best Angus weaner steers 320-400kg made 300-320c per kg or $950 to $1250. Hereford steers 260-300c per kg $780 to $1100. Generally, the heifer weaners all traded from $680 to $950 unless breeders selected pens for future joining and paid more for quality.

The first sale of 2024 operated with price trends for cattle this week generally dearer as they sold to the regular buying group. Bullocks 500-650kg sold to 275c per kg, vealers sold to 272c per kg with cows 215c per kg.

BULLS:     Sold at 9am by Auctioneer Jordy Heinrich. A Small yarding of mixed quality bulls sold with the best bulls making 220c per kg. Most sales ranged between 180-200c per kg with bulls lacking frame and cover making 140c per kg.

BULLOCKS:     Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Andrew Whan and Liam Durcan. 130 bullocks yarded with the improved quality seeing prices 5-10c per kg dearer than the pre-Christmas sale. Best young bullocks sold to 270c per kg while manufacturing dairy steers sold to 194c per kg.

Quotations:  MJ Cleaver 10 Ang ox 265c $1671. KJ & MJ Mountford 12 Ang ox 264c $1849. V & K Peucker 12 Poll Her ox 258c $1565. GC & HM Jones Friesian steers 220c $1298.

YOUNG CATTLE:     Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Peter Creek and Mitch Whan. 766 yearling and vealers yarded. Mainly vealers were sold with prices remaining equal on pre-Christmas sales with buyers being more selective on quality and shape. Best milk vealers sold to 270c per kg, mainly 180-250c per kg whilst grassfed yearling steers sold from 188-232c per kg.

Quotations: Fourwinds black Sim steer vealers 258c $1254. Compton Down Sim steers 245c $1000 with sisters 240c $893. C Damhuis Lim x steers 245c $1025.

COWS:     Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Liam Durcan and Jordy Heinrich. 681 cows yarded. A larger run of heavy weight beef cows met solid competition this week as they sold to 190c per kg to a market top of 220c per kg. Light medium frame cows 140-170c per kg, light cows purchased by restockers up to 200c per kg.

Quotations: FD & SL Kaiser BB cows 120c. B Fitzgerald a run of Hereford cows sold to 215c to average $1079.

The first sale of 2024 saw a small yarding of 2378 lambs and 85 sheep selling to strong competition with processors and restockers competing strongly as prices increased $10-$20 per head on the last market of 2023. Heavy lambs 26kg + sold from $185 to $246. Trade lambs 20-25kg sold from $150 to $208. Light lambs under 20kg sold from $50 to $112 with restockers purchasing the majority. A limited number of sheep sold from $25 to $42 while hoggets sold from $54 to $85.

  GLENBURNIE LIVESTOCK REPORT 13/12/2023

 A similar sized yarding this week at Mount Gambier of 2187 cattle.  Quality was mixed with heavy steers and bullocks quality very good, while the yearlings and the cows were not as good as previous weeks.  There were mixed pricing results too as some cattle sold at near firm rates while others were 10-30c per kg cheaper depending on class.

A reduced yarding of Bulls this week with quality lifting but prices dropping. Bulls made from 185 to 195c per kg.

HEAVY STEERS & BULLOCKS:  Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Andrew Whan and Jordy Heinrich

A very good quality yarding with less dairy types offered.  Prices on the beef steers and bullocks were firm to 15c cheaper while the dairy types had price falls of up to 30c per kg.  Heavy steers 225-260c per kg.  Bullocks 210-258c per kg.  Beef x steers 195-238c per kg.  Frs steers 155-200c per kg.

The young cattle were more mixed this week with more plainer secondary types offered.  Competition on vealers was softer with the best vealers making 240-262c per kg.  The heavy grass heifers over 500kg 200-235c per kg.  Trade heifers 215-242c per kg.  All young cattle were 15-25c per kg cheaper.

A large mixed run of cows that sold to softer competition to be 10-15c per kg cheaper than last weeks improved rates.  Heavy beef cows made 196-224c per kg while lighter types made 148-180c per kg.

The last sale of the year saw an increase in numbers with 9741 lambs and 153 sheep yarded.  The market sold to strong demand as processors all competed keenly to secure supply.  There was also a large field of store buyers operating.  Heavy lambs 26kg+ sold from $172-$218.  Trade lambs 20-25kg sold from $122-$172.  Light lambs under 20kg sold from $60-$124 with restockers purchasing the better stores from $90-$102 and light stores from $41-$88.  Hoggets sold from $30-$78 and sheep sold from $6-$50.

MOUNT GAMBIER COMBINED AGENTS DECEMBER STORE SALE REPORT

A quality yarding of 3300 came forward with many vendors annual feature drafts of Autumn drop weaners.  The sale started on a good run of heavy yearling steers of over 500kg.  These steers made $1380-$1500 or 240-260c per kg.  The weaners sold at dearer rates than the November sale due to local and NSW rainfall.  Local restockers underpinned the market to see $200-$250 price lifts.  Heavy weaners 350kg plus, $1050-$1200.  Weaners under 350kg $850-$1050.  Heifer weaners were sought by restockers and future breeders.  Heifers to be joined made $800-$900 while restockers paid $550-$780.

Kent Properties sold an excellent run of shorn lambs making a Market Top of $226 in the MWJ sale

AUCTION SETS NEW PRICE TRENDS

Price trends were dearer in the largest yarding this Spring with quality again very good and prime finish a feature of the sale.  A large field of trade and processors were buying along with feedlotters and restockers in attendance.  More milk vealers came forward with quality very good as cattle showed signs of a Spring finish.  Vealer prices improved up to 20 cents while bullocks lifted 15 cents and cow prices were equal to last week’s strong sale.

A large run of bulls in this week’s yarding with bulls selling to dearer trends.  The best bulls made 230c per kg with most sales 190-22c per kg.

Bullock prices were 10 to 15c per kg dearer this week with best Angus bullocks making 287c, mainly 250-270c per kg.  Manufacturing dairy steers improved 10c to sell between 210-238c per kg.

The cow market has been a consistent performer with most cows selling between 210-245c per kg, fully firm on last weeks market.  Light weight cows 150-200c per kg.

7751 lambs and 166 sheep saw a substantial lift in price as processors competed keenly to secure their share, lifting the lamb market $15-$30 per head.  Heavy lambs 26kg+ sold from $160 to a “Market Top” of $226 for some exceptional shorn lambs.  Trade lambs 20-25kg sold from $120 to $165.  Light lambs under 20kg sold from $55 to $118 with processors purchasing the bulk of these lambs, outbidding the store buyers.  Restockers did purchase limited numbers from $61 to $90.  A small number of hoggets made $68 to $78 while sheep sold from $28 to $55 per head.

 Widespread rain in the north has had a dramatic positive effect on markets this week.  One of the largest fields of buyers seen for some time competed strongly for the quality yarding of nearly 1700 cattle.  Prices improved 10-40c per kg across the board with processors, feedlots and restockers all active.

BULLS:     Sold at 9am by Auctioneer Jordy Heinrich

A small run of beef bulls sold at rates 10c dearer than last week, with the best bulls making 200-220c per kg. 

Quotations: Belgrave Past offered 3 outstanding Her bulls with one bull 220c 1395kg returning $3069 and 210c 1075kg $2257.

HEAVY STEERS & BULLOCKS:     Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Andrew Whan and Jordy Heinrich

A much stronger sale with improved rates of 20-45c per kg depending on class and weight.  The heavy feeder orders pushed Ang strs to 230-262c/kg.  Processors paid 228-250c per kg for suitable bullocks.  The dairy type manufacturing steers saw gains of up to 45c per kg.  The cross breds sold to 227c while the Frs steers made 180-224c per kg.

A much larger yarding of young cattle with the biggest increase in numbers being in the vealers.  Quality was very good in both the vealers and yearlings, to see vealers up to 20c/kg dearer while yearling heifers were 10-25c per kg up on last week.  Vealers made 225-270c per kg for both steers and heifers.  Heavy grass heifers over 500kg received a big lift of up to 30c per kg at 215-240c per kg.  Trade heifers made up to 240c per kg.

A very strong cow sale with competition pushing rates up to the same rates of the yearling heifers at 210-239c per kg, this being up to 40c per kg up on last weeks improved rates.

HEAVY LAMBS TOPPED AT $165.00



Price trends were dearer in a larger sale this week, with quality again very good and prime finish a feature of the sale.  A large field of trade and processor buyers along with feedlot and restockers attended.  More grass fed yearlings and milk vealers came forward with quality very good as cattle showed signs of a spring finish.  Vealer prices improved up to 10 cents per kg while bullocks lifted 5-10 cents per kg with manufacturing dairy steers 20 cents dearer.  The cow market was stronger with a lift of 10 cents on heavy weight cows making to 190c per kg.

A quality yarding of bulls this week to see the bull sale dearer.  The best bulls made from 200-210c per kg.  Bulls with less weight made 160-180c per kg.

A quality yarding this week at Glenburnie, with the increased yarding of 1739 selling ar rates fully firm to dearer than last week. The larger field of buyers were all keen to secure their share of the yarding, with bullocks and heavy steers 5-10c per kg dearer, while the young cattle suitable for the trade were up to 15c per kg dearer.

BULLS:     Sold at 9am by Auctioneer Jordy Heinrich. A smaller yarding of bulls this week with prices remaining fully firm on the previous week with bulls making from 190-202c per kg.

Quotations: IJ & VK Freebairn Ang bull 190c 875kg $1662 and 845kg $1586.

HEAVY STEERS & BULLOCKS:     Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Andrew Whan and Mitch Whan. The top end quality continues to be very good, with cattle definitely weighing in the vendors favour, with some heavy drafts coming forward. MT GAMBIER STORE SALE 10/11/23 The advertised number of 2000 cattle were yarded last Friday at Mt Gambier for the monthly store cattle sale. Quality was very good with good runs of heavy steers 480kg plus and the first of the Autumn drop weaners. Feedlots were active on the heavy steers but at reduced rates making 180-232c per kg. The better weaner steers made 220-270c per kg of $700-$850 with local, South East and North East Victorian competition. Little steers looked good buying $500-$650. Heifer demand was limited with heavy heifers over 350kg $600 to $750 while weaner heifers over 300kg made $480 to $600.

A full field of buyers competed at cheaper rates than last week. Bullocks topped at 210c per kg, mainly selling between 147-192c per kg. Vealers sold to 235c per kg cows remained firm with the best pen of cows selling to 187c per kg.  

BULLS:     Sold at 9am by Auctioneer Jordy Heinrich. A good quality yarding this week with bulls easing just slightly with the best bulls making to 202c per kg with most sales ranging from 170-200c per kg. Once again bulls lacking condition made to 150c per kg.

Quality improved for the much larger yarding of 1285 cattle (a doubling in numbers). Price results were mixed with young cattle fully firm to dearer while in the export classes the bullocks were firm, but cows were cheaper.

Cold conditions greeted agents and buyers on Wednesday were cattle prices continued to ease. Cow prices surged 10-15c per kg with exporters chasing supply with best beef cows topping at 195c per kg. Bullocks eased with best Angus bullocks 244c per kg and a good run of grassfed yearling heifers sold to 196c per kg. Vealers were small in numbers with prices remaining disappointing for the excellent quality.
