Glenburnie Market Report 23/8/23

24/08/2023

PHOTO: Braelee Pastoral Co Illawarra cows 210c 642kg $1348.

A very mixed day at Glenburnie this week, where both quality and prices varied on the smaller yarding. Only 273 cattle came forward. Quality in the heavy steers and bullocks improved with more pens of finished Angus bullocks offered, that sold to stronger competition.

BULLS:     Sold at 9am by Auctioneer Jordy Heinrich. A reduced yarding this week which saw better quality bulls yarded. Prices were firm on last week’s sales with best bulls making from 220-230c per kg.

HEAVY STEERS & BULLOCKS:     Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Andrew Whan and Liam Durcan.  A very good quality run of heavy steers and bullocks this week that met stronger competition with processors and feeder orders all trying to secure their share. The increased demand saw prices rise 8-12c per kg with the better quality 270-296c per kg. Cross bred types 200-265c per kg.

Quotations:

B Fitzgerald Her x steers 243c 588kg $1428 and 205c 562kg $1153.

YOUNG CATTLE:     Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Peter Creek and Scott Miller.  A smaller, plainer yarding of young cattle that suited restockers and feeder orders. Trade orders operated where the quality allowed with the better yearling steers making to 278c per kg while trade heifers 260-290c per kg. Generally, all the young cattle were easier on last week’s rates, but quality was a big factor in this.

COWS:     Drafted & Presented by Auctioneer Liam Durcan and Jordy Heinrich. The smallest and plainest yarding of cows seen for some time, with very few heavy beef cows offered with the bulk of the yarding light beef cows. Prices in the cow sale were again cheaper but quality again was the cause. The few heavy cows made 205-220c per kg while lighter types made 120-200c per kg.

Quotations:

Braelee Past Co Illawarra cows 210c 642kg $1348. PC & SL Woolston Ang cows 200c 610kg $1220. B Fitzgerald Her cows 200c 545kg $1091.
